IES Fundamentals of Lighting

Classes begin April 10

Your IES Ottawa Section is pleased to announce that we will be offering our most requested lighting education course this spring.

NEW FORMAT: In the past we have offered the course over 5 full days, ususally weekly on Friday. After considerable discussion among our education committee, we have decided to make some changes to this year's format which reduces the amount of time spent away from the office. This year, you will be in a classroom for three consecutive Fridays covering 3 modules each day, and will attend one evening revue session the following week. Students will complete the course in less time, and employers will not need to be without them for as long.

IES Fundamentals of Lighting is the flagship course offered by the Society and attendees are eligible to receive IES CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS (CEUs). One IES CEU is awarded based upon one contact hour of instruction. This course is approved by IES for 20 CEUs to anyone who completes Fundamentals of Lighting. Completion requires full attendance - for all 9 instructional modules and the review session. In order to be more closely aligned with the course developers, this year's course with be held over 3 consecutive Fridays, with three classes held each day. A review will take place in a more casual setting following the end of the course.

Schedule

Friday, April 10th 8:00AM - 5:00PM Modules Introduction, Light Sources, Daylighting
Friday, April 17th 8:00AM - 5:00PM Luminaires, Controls, Photometry and Calculations
Friday, April 24th 8:00AM - 5:00PM Codes and Standards, Indoor Lighting, Outdoor Lighting
Tuesday, April 28th 5:00PM - 8:00PM Final Review Session, Certificates Handed Out

Most IES course materials are acceptable as continuing education to meet the professional development requires by accrediation organizations, however, it is the responsibility of those attending to verify with your own organization as to the suitability of this or any other CEU eligible courses. Individuals who are Lighting Certified can claim CEUs as NCQLP LEU equivalents needed to maintain their LC. However, please note that CEUs earned by attending Fundamentals of Lighting do not qualify as it is assumed that an LC should already be knowledgable in the topics taught in this course..
